THE MODERN GYPSY JAZZ QUARTET
he Modern Gypsy Jazz Ensemble fuse together Gypsy Jazz rhythms and the improvisations of Modern Jazz. They perform exciting traditional gypsy tunes, sentimental jazz ballads and cool modern jazz classics; all mixed with a foot tapping swing.
The members of MGJE have performed at prestigious venues such as the Brecon Jazz Festival, Birmingham Jazz Festival, Torfaen and Marlborough Jazz Festivals, Ronnie Scotts, Le Quecumbar, The International Gypsy Guitar Festival, L 'Esprit Manouche and The New Mexico DjangoFest in Albuquerque. Closer to home in Bristol they are regularly booked at The Old Duke, The Tobacco Factory and The Grain Barge . They have also entertained at many private and corporate events.
They take their initial inspiration from Django Reinhardt, Stephane Grappelli and the European Gypsies but also tip their musical hat to the musings of the modern jazz giants like John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, Wes Montgomery, Chick Corea, Wynton Marsalis, Charlie Parker and Joe Pass.
