Starting with Natural Selection in Wolf's back in the day when the barstaff smashed it as much as the guests and danced across the stainless steel table of those notorious white spirit cocktails, Rufus has been promoting nights and DJing in Bristol for the best part of a decade.
In Wolf's for a year he got to know the diversity of taste that the Bristol rave crew will get down to. Playing hip hop, break beat, electro, drum and bass and even extracts from the Wickerman Natural Selection nights were consistently bouncing.
From Wolf's to Timbuk2, those hallowed halls. one of the team behind SugarApe which kept the diversity alive with each member taking turns to book. The night saw Ctrl Z, Subscape, Luke Dzierzerk, Stereo:Type, Skitz with a Bristol MC mash up and many more.
With nights at No.51 and sets at parties and venues throughout the city and South West from Motion to festivals and from NSB Radio to Downlow Radio Rufus' sound has evolved in a devolutionary manner that would twist Darwin's mind.
Now seen playing obscure 70s funk, 60s rock and roll, 80s party tunes and still staying true to his breakbeat flavour his sets are a shoulder rolling, smile enducing and sometimes memory evoking trip into the world of party beats courtesy of one of the West Country's finest. With everything you hear coming from the truest sound of black gold the commitment to his trade is evident.
