Rachel Laven was born in San Antonio, Tx. She started singing with her parent's cover band, the Easy Street Band and taking piano lessons at the age of five. She performed for whoever, whenever. Rachel began playing guitar at the late age of 10 and wrote a few songs with topics ranging from war to fairies. She wrote about what she saw on TV and movies at that time. In 2002, she started playing with an organization known as GirlsNGuitars with members such as Katherine Dawn and Susan Gibson. The organization hosted open mics at a local venue, The Cove. GirlsNGuitars shut down just after Rachel turned 12 in 2004, but she kept playing at the Cove with her brother, Niko and parents. In 2005, Rachel and her family recorded their first set of 2 CDs: "Sibling Rivalry" & "Rematch" live at The Cove. Some of San Antonio's top musicians like Butch Morgan, Glenn Allan and Kim Mackenzie, Gil Polanco, Luckey McClain, and Will Owen-Gage attended the recording session and played on the album. The CD was released in 2006 and as of now they have sold out on both of those CDs. All 2000 of them. When Rachel was 13, she auditioned to become a student at The North East School of the Arts and was accepted. She attended the arts school as a Musical Theatre major for her four years of high school. There she performed in plays and musicals ranging from Thoroughly Modern Millie to The Odyssey. Her favorite roles included: "Sandy" in Grease, Music Director for The Odyssey, and"Svaard Von Cove" in Pirates of Penzance. In 2007 Rachel recorded her family band's 3rd CD, "Live At The Cove, " though this time it was just the family. They recorded several originals as well as Susan Gibson's"Perfect World, " McKay Brothers' "Spirit Bird, " Terri Hendrix's"It's A Given, " and Nathan Hamilton's"Fifteen Dollars.
