Information:

WDC are really happy to share what’s possibly our most exciting news yet! After 5 years of learning & growing and countless gigs, parties, festivals and good times, Worm Disco Club have decided the right time has come for us to start up a record label!

‘Worm Discs’ will be launched in 2020 with the mission of providing fresh, contemporary acts from around the UK a platform to release their music on. We’re happy to announce that for the first night of our two consecutive shows at the Bristol Jazz & Blues Festival 2020, we are throwing a 'Worm Discs' label LAUNCH PARTY featuring three of our favourite Bristol based acts.

This feels like a very special moment to have all three of these acts sharing the same bill.

PRESENTING:

Waldo's Gift

Waldo's Gift combine elements of groove, jazz, math and classical music to formulate their own unique sound. The three piece of Alun Elliott-Williams on Guitar, Harry Stoneham on Bass and James Vine on Drums quickly gained notoriety within Bristol, and are now starting to make serious waves beyond the West Country.

Recent single - ‘Vordhosbn’ (an Aphex Twin rework) was met with much praise from BBC Radio 6 DJ Mary Anne-Hobbs and they have been highlighted as one of the acts to look out for in 2020 by Gilles Peterson. After many gigs around the UK including at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London, we are looking forward to welcoming them to the Worm Disco Club.

Snazzback

Warm and inviting future-jazz deftly blending afrobeat, hip-hop and electronica, Snazzback have a distinctive D.I.Y approach channelled through improvisation and collaboration.

Sewing their intricate arrangements together after 3 years of relentless gigging and busking together, they traverse odd-meter landscapes and hypnotic melodies with an infectious looseness. With no two shows ever quite the same and and a spontaneity that only they can bring, Snazzback will leave you buzzing with positive energy. Growing from a small group into their present 8-piece outfit, witness expressive female vocals combine with trumpet and saxophone over sizzling grooves, laid down by a well oiled rhythm section.

Run Logan Run

Run Logan Run are a head on collision of pounding tribal drums and screaming guttural saxophone. Architects of intense contrast, their music flirts with both fragility and raw power.

Formed through a shared passion for improvisation, spiritual jazz and heavier experimental music, Andrew Neil Hayes (saxophones / electronics) and Matt Brown (drum kit / percussion) have been authoring their own narrative in the new wave of crossover jazz. In 2019 they won the 'New Jazz Talent Award' (and prize bursary) for their performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival.

Having toured the UK extensively and sharing stages with the likes of Colin Stetson, Melt Yourself Down, Shabaka Hutchings, and The Bad Plus, this duo are going places and taking no prisoners.

Worm Disco Club DJs.

Jackson, Jake and Nathan will spinning tunes in between and after the acts. Strictly the best Jazz sounds for this one!!!
