The physical, chemical, and biological processes which weather the landscape are like the evolution in our minds and bodies as we accumulate life events. Landscape informs senses and memories.

During a visit to Iceland in 2015, I became interested in the effect of the weather on landscape and the affirmation that we cannot be separate from our environment. In wilderness we are absorbed in a liminal space. It is an internal and external landscape.

This is an uneasy time where the weather events of human making speed up. The rock, ice, fire, water and shifting surfaces of Iceland appear to illustrate this in microcosm.

Tapestry weaving evolved from my practise of intuitive drawing and painting. My aim is to extend this through tapestry and a love of textiles. Tapestry is a slow meditative process so there is time to be guided by the material delving into the surface rather than working onto it.

The art and craft of weaving go back for thousands of years, and yet there is still much to explore in this archaic medium in the present.
