held at Sidney & Eden
on Tuesday 11th November. The event starts at 19:00.
For the next screening at the Indie Classics Film Club on Tuesday November 11th, we’re exploring another side of international film culture through Taiwanese drama REBELS OF THE NEON GOD (1992).
The debut film of visionary director Tsai Ming-liang, it’s an evocative expression of urban loneliness and alienation in the metropolis of Taipei, a 90s take on James Dean’s Rebel Without a Cause. It’s populated by listless young people who wile away their hours playing arcade games, among them a man who develops an obsessive, and possibly homoerotic, fixation on another.
Director Tsai is one of the best but still underseen directors of world cinema in recent decades, so be sure to see what he’s all about!
As ever we’ll be at the Sidney and Eden, entry is free, and doors are at 18:30 for a 19:00 start. See you there for a film and a drink afterwards!
