The Pillowman By Martin McDonagh
Presented by Mind Ya Business Theatrics
Mind Ya Business Theatrics presents The Pillowman by Martin McDonagh at the Loco Klub, Bristol

‘The first duty of a storyteller is to tell a story.’ Or was it, ‘The only duty of a storyteller is to tell a story’?
A writer in a totalitarian state is interrogated about the gruesome content of her short stories and their similarities to a number of child-murders taking place in her town.

When it premiered in 2003, The Pillowman felt like a dark reminder of times gone by: unsettling, but distant.
Today, it feels uncomfortably close – censorship, authoritarianism, and violence disguised as ‘protecting the children’.

This isn’t a cautionary tale any more. This is a warning we’ve already ignored.
