Features and Facial Expressions Workshop :
Rock, charcoal, Roll & perhaps oils!
< u> Saturdays (11:30 to 17:00) 18th, 25th of April & 2nd of May. The course costs most materials & printed ref included £260 < /u>(If you’re unable to attend all sessions, I can arrange a dedicated evening during the week to help you catch up)

The course will begin by focusing on the construction of each facial feature. It will then transition into facial anatomy to support an understanding of how expressions are formed. Finally, students will select and study one of the seven primary facial expressions, inspired by a well-known performer.

In the second half, students will bring their work to life by creating a full-value portrait of their chosen performer, choosing their preferred medium—charcoal, graphite, or oil paint—to showcase depth, drama, and personal style.

This course covers the essentials of facial features and anatomy, guiding students to capture several of the seven primary expressions. To bring this to life, we’ll draw from Martin Thompson’s extraordinary live-music archive, featuring icons from Amy Winehouse to Lemmy Kilmister in their most  expressive moments. We’ll draw on these powerful moments—choosing our references from a visual history charged with emotion. Choose an icon from Martins photography Instagram :
