event
on Thursday 9th May. The event starts at 20:00.
On Thursday 1st December 1976, the pop group Queen were due to appear on the Today Show, hosted by Bill Grundy. For some reason they cancelled at the last minute and were replaced by The Sex Pistols, leading to a car crash interview that led to a spectacular fall from grace for Bill, and put the Pistols into the mainstream.
We meet TV presenter Bill Grundy three years after this profanity-littered, car-crash interview with the Sex Pistols live on tea-time TV in 1976. An erudite, driven man, but with a huge self-destructive streak, Bill struggles to keep his career going.
He reflects on how his career turned from being the era’s Paxman into a 70s Partridge, how he inadvertently kick-started a cultural movement he abhors and why that 'Today' interview continues to haunt him.
Praise for After Today
