Bartoune At The Alma at Alma Tavern And Theatre

A gig on Sunday 31st January. The event starts at 20:00.

Charlotte"Bartounette" Ostafew: Baritone Sax, Clarinet, Vocals.

Tom"Beardy Daddy" Allen: Doublebass

Seb"Bastounette" Gutiez: Guitar

12 years of experience and showmanship leaves this professional trio well versed at taking the audience on a journey. The hot-club style outfit travels through desert caravans, mediteranian vibes and 40s swing-dance halls, depending on where the crowd, and the band, want to go!

Their fresh sound and variety of instruments and rhythms keeps any audience interested. Gypsy Jazz, classic songs, mellow clarinet tones, and driving Bari sax , all under pinned by the tight swing of vibrant guitar and Bass.

Formed of 3 members of The Zen Hussies, Bartoune also perform from time to time as a 4 piece, thanks to the brilliant collaboration with John Blakeley of Sheelanagig fame.

The addition of drums (as well as clarinet, vocals and archtop guitar) on their second album"Tramontane" takes them to new musical territories and solidifies their already strong and unique identity.

Here's also a review of their first album from the Musician Union Magazine:

"Formed in 2008, Charlotte Ostafew (baritone sax/vocals), Seb Gutiez (guitar) and Tom Allen (double bass) step out of the excellent Zen Hussies and forge a unique and compelling Hot Club style outfit, both live and on record.

Occasionally supported by the drums of Matt Brown or Steve Fulcher, the group displays how top-drawer musicians moving away from standard line-ups can often present a delightful and fresh alternative. 12 tracks of upbeat, Mediterranean-tinged fun stream by in no time and encourage repeated listening, not just for the innovative mix of instruments but especially the individual playing, ensemble work and soloing spread right across this invigorating album. "
