on Thursday 8th December. The event starts at 20:00.
For one night only, Word Wizards Cabaret returns to The Alma!
Featuring The Bard of Windmill Hill, award-winning poet, lyrical comedian, stand-up philosopher, events creator, word weaver, satirist and moments of magic maker. He is, according to Simon Clark, Festival Director of The Eyes Have It Festival 2022 "Fantastic. Really good fun. Incredible." And according to Barnstaple Theatre Festival an "Amazing performer. Such a unique skill in terms of creativity and delivery. Engaging with the audience makes it exciting and alive." And according to Cheltenham Poetry Festival “He turns the absurd, bewildering and frequently frustrating aspects of modern life into laughter fodder. Witty, ironic and waspish, this is social comment and cerebral comedy at its best!”
Mark Darkside is a versatile entertainer with a strong stage presence and impressive vocal range. As a humorous piano-playing singer-songwriter, you can look forward to self-penned parodies of popular Christmas classics, such as ‘Ding Dong Merrily I’m High’ and ‘Your nuts roasting on an open fire’. Expect seasonal and off-seasonal cheekiness, jovial wit and the odd inspired rhyming couplet. Mark’s pianistic comedy antics have taken them to the Edinburgh and Brighton Fringe festivals, where they performed sell-out solo shows. As well as being a musical satirist, Mark also performs as an Elton John tribute act, so don’t be surprised if a rendition of Rocket Man or Crocodile Rock creeps into the set!
Deb Winter is a national award-winning storyteller. She specialises in refried fairy tales, in which she takes terrible liberties with the familiar fairy tales of your childhood. Just for once, let's hear it from the wolf's point of view! Deb's quirky sense of humour and lively delivery keeps audiences entertained wherever she tells her original stories.(Serious academics studying Grimm's Tales: possibly best if you don't come.)
