Spain, 1937 and international goalkeeper, George Gilbert, finds himself awaiting the firing squad. How did he get there and how, if at all, does he get out? Recounting tales of daring in order to make his toughest save yet…his life!
It's Spain, 1937 and International Goalkeeper, George Gilbert, awaits the firing squad. How did he find himself as a prisoner of the Civil War? Will his captors relent? Will he escape to fight another day? Keeper of the Flame, written and performed by Rob Adams, looks at the idea that sport and politics should never meet. An idea that as we’ve seen over the years is mere fantasy. Dealing with the rise of fascism in the late 20s and early 30s, Keeper of the Flame, is full of heart, humour and heroism.
First performed as part of the Camden Fringe in 2022, audiences have been enthralled by the story of George Gilbert. We are excited for this opportunity to bring the play to The Alma.
