Rose is fighting for her life on the transplant ward. Battling for survival, she contends with the loss of her teenage years, spending her days waiting, her body rapidly deteriorating as she faces a race against time to receive a heart. She lives an endless routine of doctors appointments, rest and confrontation with a fate unknown.
Thank God for Charlie, the look-on-the-bright-side transplant buddy in the next bed who reminds her that there is still hope. Meanwhile Rose’s sister Hazel navigates being the supportive relative as she faces first heartbreak, paired with a fierce guilt as she’s unable to protect her sister. Hearts are broken, healed and changed. A heart-warming tale of a life lived in waiting and what it means to be a young person forced to consider mortality. Inspired by true events.
Following a successful run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this August, South-West based theatre company Paper Dolls are excited to bring this hidden story into full view at Bristol’s Alma Tavern. ‘A Change of Heart’ is a brand new play by Harriet Godfrey in collaboration with story contributor and transplant recipient Eliza Bell from ‘Transplant Chats’. Eliza is now an advocate for the transplant community, coaching pre- and post- transplant individuals and creating a support network through her international podcast ‘Transplant Chats with Eliza’. ‘A Change of Heart’ is a thought-provoking story, aimed at anyone who wishes to discover, feel and connect.
