An interactive study day of talks, presentations and activities around touch, textures, multisensoriality and translation exploring how the contemporary arts can help us better relate to risk and warning.

The programme will include contributions from:

Artist, Ximena Alarcón-Díaz, who will guide us through a listening experience exploring presence in a relational space through emerging scores and improvisatory soundings.

Scientists, Carina Fearnley and Ilan Kelman, will explore multi-sensory and more-than-human approaches to warnings.

With assistive technology designer, Kyle Kean, we will swap auditory perspectives to explore co-ordinated responses and successful communication strategies within complex situations.

Composer James Saunders will explore how the social behaviour of groups can be used as a means to articulate musical structures and processes, embodying decision-making in live performance

Civic leader, Sibusiso Tshabalala, will address the history of stop and search processes and de-escalation techniques focused on touch

Curators, Francesca Cavallo & Irene Revell, will present their ongoing research about the juxtaposition between scores and warnings and invite you to join an activity to activate them.

Together with designer / researcher, Amina Abbas Nazari, we will summon a storm, exploring the formation of a choir as a method for modelling human-ecological entanglement.

The ticket price includes a simple lunch. If cost is a barrier to you attending, please email [email protected]

Part of a weekend programme including a performance that activates and displays a collection of conceptual artworks, artistic scores, protest materials and public warning systems curated by Francesca Cavallo and Irene Revell (which will be available to view in the Reading Room). Also presented across the weekend will be a newly-commissioned audio work by Mark Titchner.
