held at Arnolfini
on Saturday 25th October. The event starts at 12:00.
Honouring Daphne Oram's centenary in partnership with the Oram Awards, we present two workshops aimed at women, trans and non-binary people, with Bristol-based Saffron Music.
12noon-2pm Creative Vinyl Workshop
Hosted by Saffron and led by DJ and producer Daisy Moon, this workshop explores the use of vinyl records and FX to create sonic textures and soundscapes. Drawing on ambience and oddities, the session will be playful and explorative, re-imagining and re-interpreting original material through experimental use of turntables.
3pm-5pm Digital DJ Workshop
Hosted by Saffron and led by Daisy Moon, this workshop offers an alternative approach to digital DJing, using multiple deck set-ups to create soundscapes and textures. With rare access to original unheard material from the Oram archive, participants will experiment with CDJs as tools and instruments, building diverse, experimental pockets and combinations of sound.
Saffron Music is a music tech initiative taking an intersectional approach to redressing the gender imbalance in the industry.
The Oram Awards builds on Daphne Oram's pioneering legacy as a founding member of the original BBC Radiophonic Workshop, and her vital role establishing women at the forefront of electronic music innovation.
Entry requirements: no age restrictions (under 18s to be accompanied by an adult over 21yrs, 1:1 ratio)
