Raise the Bar: Writing Workshop | Autumn 2026

A new, quarterly poetry workshop at Arnolfini for writers of all levels of experience, facilitated by a member of the Raise the Bar team. You’ll be guided through gentle writing prompts to generate new work, engage in lively discussions about contemporary poetry and craft, and meet other poets in the community.

Our Autumn workshop will be led by writer, performer and facilitator Kat Lyons, as part of National Poetry Day 2026.

Whether you are new to writing poetry or are an experienced/published writer, all are welcome to join our affordable workshops, with tickets available for just £5.

Kat Lyons (they/them) is a Queer writer, performer, workshop facilitator and creative producer whose work is grounded in everyday politics and a love of storytelling. Kat was the 2022-24 Bristol City Poet. Their most recent solo project was Dry Season, a spoken word theatre show exploring gender, age and menopause, toured the UK in 2021-22. Their debut poetry collection Love Beneath the Nails is available from Verve Poetry Press. Kat has performed and facilitated workshops throughout the UK, and was nominated for the 2022 Jerwood Poetry in Performance Award. They live in the Mendips where they spend a lot of time poking about looking at mushrooms. They are passionate about using storytelling to re/connect people to themselves, each other and their environment.
