ANGEL BAT DAWID at Arnolfini
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"Soon to be held aloft as the spiritual successor to Alice Coltrane, Sun Ra and the cosmic jazz prophets - Chicago multi-instrumentalist and bandleader Angel Bat Dawid creates avant garde jazz of stunning depth and feeling. To our knowledge, this is her first time in the UK - get healed, see history."

A life-affirming Saturday afternoon solo set from the Chicago-based composer and multi-instrumentalist with a reputation for galvanising and celebratory live performance.

Angel Bat Dawid is an American composer, clarinetist, pianist, vocalist, producer, educator & DJ, with a reputation for galvanising and celebratory live performance.

Since her emergence on the Chicago jazz and improvised music scene, multi-instrumentalist Angel Bat Dawid has appeared on stage with fellow experimental acts Ben LaMar Gay, Jaimie Branch, Damon Locks, Matthew Lux and Roscoe Mitchell. Her first proper release The Oracle (2019) was recorded on Dawid's phone in various locations including London, Cape Town and during her residency in the attic of music venue Radcliffe Hunter House in Bronzeville, South Side, Chicago. More recently, the Hush Harbor Mixtape Vol. 1 and Angel's energetic NTS broadcasts have shown different sides to this prolific and singular figure operating on the fertile fringes of jazz, soul and improvisation.
