Breaking Boundaries Workshop | with Edson Burton at Arnolfini

A event held at Arnolfini on Saturday 9th April. The event starts at 14:30.

14:30pm - 16:30. £5.

How does language help us connect to our intended audience and expand our communication to more people? Do we -poets, wanna be poets- suppress and select our language on the basis of what we think is or is not suitable for poetry. This workshop, delivered by Lyra Festival's 2022 Festival Poet Edson Burton, will explore the 2022 theme of Breaking Boundaries: New Worlds. Using examples from Linton Kwesi Johnson, Jean Binta Breeze, Robert Burns and Langston Hughes, this workshop is an opportunity to experiment with using ‘personal language’ slang, regional dialect and mother tongue to create new connections and break boundaries.

Part of Lyra - Bristol Poetry Festival 2022.
