Lyra’s 2023 film screening showcases short poetry films by creatives of African/Caribbean origin or descent.

Poetry In Motion is a curation of poetry film by the award-winning writer, poet, film maker and host Be Manzini. A selection of short poetry films (defined as film that incorporates or animates poetry) by creatives of African/Caribbean origin or descent. Expect to experience a range of poetic and film-making styles, inspired by established and emerging Black British artists, spotlighting their lived experiences and affirming poetry as musical thought. Followed by a Q&A with Be Manzini.

The film screening itself will be captioned, and both the film screening and introduction + Q&A will be BSL interpreted.

BE MANZINI:

Be Manzini, known as the ‘film poet’, uniquely combines passions for film, poetry and activism. First ever writer in residence for Sundance, the only poet to appear on Mark Kermode’s shows plus a regular panellist for the BFI, Manzini’s has graced stages, screens as well as the page Channel 4, across BBC tv and radio plus various podcasts. As a workshop facilitator/mentor reached over 7,000 students and as director and host for Caramel Film Club, which focusses on Black creatives, many more. Published by Peepal Tree Press, Flipped Eye and Arachne Press Manzini was crowned the Poetry in Film and overall winner for the Out-Spoken Poetry Prize 2022.
