System K - Afrika Eye at Arnolfini

A event held at Arnolfini on Thursday 16th November. The event starts at 19:00.

In the urban jungle that is Kinshasa Democratic Republic of Congo, amid social and political chaos, an eclectic, bubbling art scene has emerged. Street art & performance captured in the lens of Renauld Barrett, documents the ingenuity, creativity, and passion that artists bring to the everyday. Taking their political messages to the streets through transforming what’s been thrown away into art, they triumph over harassment from the authorities & traditional taboo through their joyful, anarchic creations

This is a partnership with Arnolfini, who will be showing ‘Eregata እርጋታ ‘ the first major solo European museum exhibition of one of Ethiopia’s leading contemporary artists, Elias Sime, an artist of extraordinary craftsmanship and collaborative spirit. Following the screening, enjoy Q&A with director Renaud Barret and musician Andy Morgan. Ticket holders will have access to an after-hours opening of this exhibition ahead of the screening at 7:30pm!

The exhibition runs from 21st October 2023 to 18th February 2024.
