BEN FROST (LIVE) + TIM HECKER (LIVE) + EKOPLEKZ

THURS 2 DEC

BEN FROST / TIM HECKER / EKOPLEKZ

at ARNOLFINI, 16 NARROW QUAY, BRISTOL

DOORS AT 8pm

A monolithic double bill featuring two true international masters of sculptured noise and artful sonic contrast, plus a brand new soundpusher from Bristol.

The music of Melbourne-born BEN FROST is vast, violent and utterly sublime: it unfurls magnificently across rooms with a singular snowbound beauty (he dwells in Iceland), but also lurks at the ear with wolflike menace, too close for comfort. Last year's album'By The Throat' (Bedroom Community) saw circles of dubstep, classical, sound art and metal overlap in their praise, and Frost has just premiered an ambitious new score for Tarkovsky's'Solaris' in collaboration with his mentor Brian Eno.

Canadian musician/sound artist TIM HECKER works at the junktion of melody, white noise and textural dissonance. He creates electronic song/sound pieces that break-and-enter the consciousness through both low frequency physical pressure and a certain chaotic serenity, and his releases on fine labels like Kranky, Fat Cat and Room40 (who have just released new single'Apondalifa') have reached and rewired electronic, rock and avant-heads alike.

EKOPLEKZ is an artist who shuns modern digital production techniques in favour of primitive analogue devices, lo-fi cassette recorders and a spontaneous, improvised approach to composition. Taking inspiration from'Radiophonic' soundtracks, early dub reggae, krautrock and post-punk D.I.Y. experimenter's like Cabaret Voltaire, Throbbing Gristle and Robert Rental, Ekoplekz is intent on introducing a new generation to the kind of raw eruptions of sound that first gave birth to the UK's electronic underground over 30 years ago. His new 12" is out on PUNCH DRUNK in November.
