Somatic Movement Workshop: Our Bodies Need Time and Space to Digest Ideas at Arnolfini
See event details

A event held at Arnolfini on Thursday 5th February. The event starts at 16:30.

Join us for a somatic movement workshop inspired by Emma Talbot: Everything is Energy, led by artist and somatic practitioner Jan-Ming Lee.

Through creative, body-based explorations and gentle reflection, you will be guided to listen to your own body as an energising resource - exploring ideas in the exhibition and connecting with ourselves.

Jan-Ming will combine movement, body awareness, written and spoken reflections to help us tune into our sensory experiences, the spaces around us, and the stories and emotions that move through these spaces.

This workshop encourages playfulness and creativity, even within difficult emotions such as grief, loss, and disconnection from our natural world.

Thursday 5 February, 4.30-6.30pm

Please book a place and pay what you can.

Please arrive at Arnolfini's front desk 5 minutes before the session starts.

Open to all. Some exercises may include simple, optional physical contact. All activities can be adapted to be fully non-contact if preferred. If you have any questions, please email [email protected]

About the Facilitator

Jan-Ming Lee is a movement artist & somatic bodyworker. Her work is situated in the spaces in-between things, in the movements of transition and translation between different known worlds. She works to piece back together pathways that were forgotten, or forge new connections that want to be imagined.

She has devised and choreographed for ensembles, led improvisation scores for site-specific work, created spoken word/sound poetry performance, improvised music for theatre & dance productions, and designed and performed installation-based work; showing work at places including Tate Modern, The Place, Curve Theatre and Victoria & Albert Museum.

Jan-Mig Lee is a certified Pantarei Approach somatic bodyworker, teaching people to connect to their own strength, combining empathic touch, somatic prompts and creative, constructive verbal communication. She uses this to facilitate processes for bespoke projects, individuals and educational/wellbeing organisations.
