Art in the City - Cian Oba-Smith at Arnolfini
See event details

A event held at Arnolfini on Wednesday 14th April. The event starts at 18:30.

Cian Oba-Smith is an award-winning Irish-Nigerian photographer whose work is concerned with representing people who are often overlooked and places that are too frequently misrepresented. Whether capturing the little-known communities and the fringes of society of his native London, or recording sub-cultures around the world, Oba-Smith has a particular interest in exploring how the relationship between people, their environment and how they are represented, shapes their experience.
His most recent project A Quiet Prayer, commissioned by Foreground, is a somber meditation on London during the first Covid-19 lockdown of 2020. The project can be viewed online here. In this event Cian will talk with Foreground's Director Simon Morrissey about his work and motivation.
Oba-Smith’s work has been featured in multiple photography exhibitions and international journals including the British Journal of Photography, Dazed and Confused and The Guardian. He is represented by Wyatt-Clarke + Jones.
This event will take place on Zoom. A link to join online will be sent on booking.
Art in the City is a series of international artist’s talks co-presented by Fine Art UWE Bristol and Arnolfini. Previous speakers include Phyllida Barlow, Sonia Boyce, Jeremy Deller, Martin Creed, Rose Wylie, Imran Perretta, Bob and Roberta Smith, and Laure Prouvost.
