An 18+ social event for people to share their love of rope bondage. Doors open at 13.30, and there will be an introduction to the space at 13.50. The room will be split into two areas, one for free tying and one for the taster class which will be looking at consent and negotiation, led by guest teachers Treezy and Twisted Tease.
Participants are welcome to come solo, in pairs or groups. All learning constellations welcome as the teaching will be predominantly discussion-based and adapted accordingly. There is a limited amount of communal rope available if you do not have your own.
The space:
There will be a large area for tying with beanbags around the edges for those that want to sit, observe and socialise. There are x4 hard points in the space that can be used for single-point suspensions. Any suspension work must take place after the taster class, and participants must get explicit permission from the host who will set the point up. Due to the layout we ask for only x2 points to be used at the same time so there is space for floor tying. There is a kitchenette where some tea will be provided. Please bring your own mugs and snacks.
Latecomers:
Please arrive by 13.50 latest to be introduced to the space rules. If you are going to be late there is a doorbell, but once the class has started you will have to wait until there is some free time to be let in.
Parking:
The venue is in an industrial estate with plenty of free parking on the weekend.
Accessibility:
There are 17 steps leading up to the venue door. A chill-out area with a sofa will be available for anyone needing a quiet space during the jam. There are two gender-neutral toilets located directly next to the studio space.
We intend to create a consensual, inclusive, supportive, respectful atmosphere and ask participants to share these values. Please read the below documents before attending.
About the host:
Burgundy Rose (she/they) is a rope switch, facilitator and artist interested in using the body as a tool for expression. They have been studying Japanese kinbaku/shibari for almost a decade, beginning their journey at Anatomie Studio in London and since learning from a broad range of international educators and collaborators. Dynamic, playful and attentive, they are deeply curious about the body and thrive on the intensities - both physical and psychological - that rope can bring out.
Burgundy Rose has training in theatre, dance and aerial circus, which influences their personal style. In 2019 they were awarded a ‘Developing Your Creative Practice’ grant from Arts Council England to deepen their research across rope, dance and physical theatre. Their shibari teaching and creative performances have taken them across London, Manchester, Bristol, Brussels, Berlin, Prague, Athens, Rotterdam and Portland (USA).
