TAMSIN ELLIOTT t & TAREK ELAZHARY

Exploring the parallels and celebrating the idiosyncrasies of both Egyptian and English folk traditions, Tamsin Elliott and Tarek Elazhary aim to find commonality, foster cross-cultural connection and help to heal the scars of a colonial past through meaningful and conscious collaboration.

Drawing from Tamsin's expertise as a multi-instrumentalist and composer rooted in English folk, alongside Tarek's virtuosity as an oud player and composer of Maqam music, their partnership is a testament to the unifying power of music.

Their award-winning debut album 'So Far We Have Come' (Penny Fiddle Records, 2023) has captured the attention of critics and audiences alike, praised for its innovative blend of quartertone accordion, lever harp, and oud. Hailed by The Observer as ''a poised, atmospheric fusion delivered by two master players'', their music transcends borders, inviting listeners on a mesmerising journey through landscapes both familiar and foreign.

With critical acclaim from Songlines Magazine, including a "Best Group" nomination at the 2024 Songlines Music Awards, Folk Radio UK, and The Guardian, their work showcases the role of music in bridging cultural divides and forging meaningful connections. Through their friendship, Tamsin and Tarek exemplify a future-facing generation, united in their quest to build new and authentic musical expressions that resonate across continents and cultures.
