Join us once again in celebrating the tale of Bridge Farm with Samhain! Come one, come all, bring your costumes and spells, cast them over the land and dance them away!
Samhain means “End of Summer” in Celtic. It is a time marking the end of the harvest season and beginning of winter, and the darker months, and the halfway point between autumn and winter equinoxes, one of the four seasonal Celtic festivals of the year.
Historically, it is a time when the world of the gods is revealed to humans, when the barrier between our worlds thins. At this time, the gods were believed to play many tricks on humans, with many spooky and unexplainable occurrences happening. We strengthen our connection through music, fire, dance, and offer food and drink to ensure that we make it to the other side of the darkness.
Once upon a time, Bridge Farm sat proud and tall alongside other historical structures, just on the other side of a medieval bridge crossing the river Frome. Today, the M32 has reshaped the area and replaced the farm’s original neighbours, but Bridge Farm is still a pillar of hope, standing alone as a Bridge from the past to the future. It’s name, location and history draw us in and the spirits out.
What have the cobbled street and grassy hills of Bridge Farm seen in years gone by? What would the people have worn at the time the farmhouse was built in the 1700s? What have the oldest trees seen, intertwined with one another both above, and below...ground. We are held by the spirit of the fallen chestnut from earlier this year. And the horses, are their spirits present from the time they roamed this land? Just a few months ago, a horseshoe was unearthed, intertwined with the root of a medicinal plant. All these spirits and history, what is their message to us?
Let us find out on this night, the night of Samhain, where the veil is thin and the connection strong. We will continue these ancient traditions with music, dance, fire, food, workshops, and special surprises from local artists taking you on a magical journey into the dark.
Come dressed as the folk would have been in the early days of the Farm, or as a god or a witch with potions and spells. Cast them upon the land and set your winter intentions.
