Queer Ecology talk and Nature Queerdos community meeting at Bristol Beer Factory Tap Room & Studio North St
See event details

A event on Wednesday 18th February. The event starts at 19:00.

Join us for an exploration of Queer Ecology with Jodi Peacham, gardener and queer plants enthusiast. From a-gendered ferns to bisexual flowers, delve into the wonderful world of queer plants and explore the many ways they bend the biology of male and female. Queer Ecology is a radical new perspective blending ecology, botany and queer theory. Through queer ecology, the hedgerow comes alive with queer relations, gender and sexual diversity. After the talk we will be holding a Nature Queerdos community meeting where you will have the opportunity to dream up new events, volunteer, discuss accessibility, feedback and shape the direction of Nature Queerdos moving forward. We will do a combination of talking and brainstorming in small groups, feeding back and group discussion. Who we are: Nature Queerdos is a community interest company (not for profit) created by and for LGBTQIA+ people with a passion for enhancing well-being through nature and creativity. Together we will explore our local (ish) green spaces, learn about the edible, medicinal and practical uses of plants growing there, engage in well-being practices, and create something special together with whatever is in abundance that can be sustainably gathered. Our focus is on creating a friendly, inclusive and accessible experience for the queer community. Follow us on instagram: nature_queerdos or facebook: nature queerdos: forage and make. Access: Bristol Beer Factory Studio is a fully wheelchair accessible space with a wheelchair accessible toilet and a ramp to the entrance. Personal Assistants can attend for free, please choose PA in the ticket type. Come as you are! It’s always OK to take breaks away from the group if needed, wear headphones, stim etc. Attendees will receive a copy of Jodi’s Queer Ecology zine during the talk which will assist with names of plants and key ideas. The talk will be roughly 1 hour and the community meeting approximately 1 hour, but participants are welcome to leave mid way. Whilst most of our events are sober, please be aware we are kindly being hosted for free as a community group by Bristol Beer Factory. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks will be available. Please note, there are multiple Bristol Beer Factory venues. This is the Tap Room and Studio on North St, Bedminster.
