Bristol Bike Project is looking forward to hosting a film night for Refugee Week as part of the Bristol Refugee Festival. We'll show the films in our community bike workshop. https://www.bristolrefugeefestival.org/
*Films*
We'll be showing the following short films for a total of 1 hour 15 minutes.
Nanitic
Burnt Milk
Journey Mercies
The scent of Geranium
Los Comandos
Films will start at 7 pm and finish at 8:30 pm. We're hoping to have a representative from Bristol Refugee Festival present to speak to the audience about the work they do and where the funds for any donations will go. We are an alcohol-free space, but please feel free to bring snacks or non-alcoholic drinks if you'd like.
*Accessibility*
We have an accessible toilet in the workshop. We have a ramp, however, it's not fully accessible due to the steepness. Please get in touch if you have further questions or requirements.
*Bike parking*
You can lock your bikes up in the surrounding area, there are bike locks at the bottom of Seymour road and plenty outside the J3 library.
*About the Bristol Bike Project*
We are a comprehensive community bike project, repairing and rehoming unwanted bicycles. We aim to help people from all walks of life get out on two wheels and for it to be an inclusive and empowering experience.
We work in cooperation with over 50 organisations in and around Bristol, including Bristol Refugee Rights, Bristol Drugs Project, Second Step, Unseen, The Big Issue & various youth groups amongst many others.
*About Refugee Week and the Film night*
This year, Counterpoints Arts and Other Cinemas – two organisations who work across intersections of racial justice, migration, and climate – have collaborated on a film programme taking place June 16th-22nd for a community-powered week!
The programme, curated by Other Cinemas, consists of 5 shorts and 2 feature length films that explore the theme of #communityasasuperpower. From emergency responders in El Salvador supporting their communities in crisis to the familiar smell and taste of home to bring comfort, these films invite us to celebrate the diverse way we build and sustain our communities.
We would like to thank the team at Curate-It for providing us with a secure, online platform to share these films and celebrate Refugee Week with our global community.
