After a sold out run and 4 to 5 star reviews across the board at Edinburgh Fringe, Two Birds Theatre Co is back in Bristol with their new debut play Ave Maria.
‘Father’ Julian has a secret: she’s not the man she claims to be. Within the strange and oppressive medieval church, Julian has built a life as a priest carefully maintained by a web of lies. But after she’s appointed bishop for the county, her story begins to unravel. Growing whispers of a ‘woman priest’ bring local zealot Cardinal Richard to the parish to investigate, leading Julian and the church community into a series of scrapes where faith and fealty collide. Ave Maria is a darkly funny story of faith, identity, and power about those who must consider between who they are, and what they believe.
