Forbidden Worlds of the Deep | Dir: Richard Jefferies | 1980 | USA | 87 mins | Cert. 15,

When the late, great James Earl Jones passed away last year, there were celebrations of his work on stage and screen with everyone citing the likes of Fences to Star Wars.

Few mentioned Blood Tide… and that’s their loss!

Starring as Shakespeare-quoting treasure hunter Frye, Earl Jones is magnetic in a tale of curses, sea monsters and sacrificial virgins from the film-makers that brought you Island of Death and The Zero Boys.

When treasure hunter Frye (James Earl Jones) accidentally awakens an ancient sea monster that has been lying dormant on a Greek island, the inhabitants are forced to resume the practice of sacrificing virgins in order to placate the demonic creature. Meanwhile a couple, Neil (Cobra Kai’s Martin Kove wearing some natty outfits!) and Sherry (Mary Louise Weller), arrive on the island in search of Neil's missing sister, Madeline.

Written and produced by B-movie favourite Nico Mastorakis, Blood Tide is “a suspense-filled creature feature surging with blood, nudity and beachside aerobics!”

Entry requirements: 18+
