Dir. Nils Gaup | Norway | 86 mins | Cert. 15

For over 1,000 years, the Sami people have told the story of a young warrior that defended his tribe against invaders. In 1987, it was adapted into this cult action-adventure film, becoming the first full-length film to be made in the Sami language as well as being nominated for the 1988 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Filming in the breathtaking wilds of Finland, Pathfinder is set in 10th-century Lapland where after watching his family being slaughtered by the bloodthirsty Tchude tribe, sees a younger hunter called Aigin take refuge in a small, peaceful village.

After trying to warn the residents of the cruelties of the Tchudes; as a result, half the villagers take to the hills, while the other half elect to stay and stand their ground. Soon captured by the Tchudes, Aigin is forced to lead them to the remaining villagers, but will he be able to turn the tables before it is too late?

The film was remade in 2007, starring Karl Urban and Clancy Brown, substituting the Sami and Tchudes for Native Americans and Vikings, but this is an incredibly rare opportunity to see the Nordic original on the big screen.

This film will be shown in its original Northern Sami language with English subtitles
