EXCALIBUR at Bristol Megascreen
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"Sell out warning! Superlative, highly-stylised Hollywood Arthurian action, set apart from its peers by fantastical armory and lurid lighting (Boorman was clearly still on a comedown from the batshittery of Zardoz). Excalibur is truly one of the best cinematic distillations of the magic of UK mythology, presented in crisp 4k with a festival exclusive pre-amble from visionary blacksmith Terry English."

Dir: John Boorman | UK/US | 141 mins | Cert. 15

From John Boorman, the director of Point Blank, Deliverance and Zardoz comes the definitive cinematic telling of the life and enduring legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table.

With an all-star cast that includes Helen Mirren, Gabriel Byrne, Cherie Lunghi, Nicol Williamson, Patrick Stewart, Ciarán Hinds and Liam Neeson, the film is famed for its stunning Irish locations and fantastical imagery as Boorman puts every aspect of the Arthurian legend on screen including the golden age of Camelot, the quest for the Holy Grail and of course, the wizard, Merlin.

For this special screening, we’ll be screening Arrow’s new 4K restoration which means the film will sound and look more spectacular than ever before!

The screening of Excalibur will be preceded by an introduction from Charley Boorman, son of John Boorman.

UPDATE

Due to a sudden bereavement, Terry English will no longer be able to attend the screening of Excalibur.

The screening of Excalibur will still go ahead as scheduled, but the event might finish earlier than detailed.
