Bristol Photo Festival Walking Tour

Bristol Photo Festival Walking Tour at Bristol Museum & Art Gallery

An event on Saturday 14th November. The event starts at 14:00.

Explore more of Bristol Photo Festival on Saturday 14 November with a guided walking tour led by our curators, alongside special guest Christine Eyene, curator of Home & Exile by George Hallett, which is currently on view at IC Visual Lab.

The tour will include:

* Bristol Museum and Art Gallery – We’ll begin with Akshay Mahajan’s People of Clay, which maps folk stories found across the India–Bangladesh border. We’ll then explore Sheida Soleimani’s Persistence Studies, which examines how long sparrows can survive in a polluted landscape before being forced to move elsewhere.
* Centrespace Gallery – Family Times brings together two leading Taiwanese artists who explore questions of family and inheritance. After discovering his parents’ 1984 wedding photograph, Liu restaged the image with the roles reversed: his mother in a suit and his father in a wedding dress. This reimagining explores Taiwan’s changing relationship with queerness. In The Mother as a Curator, artist Annie Wang creates an annual photograph with her son, documenting their evolving relationship as they navigate questions of care and ageing together.
* KIT FORM – Inherited brings together two Bristol-based artists exploring questions of family inheritance. Kelly O’Brien’s No Rest for the Wicked examines the multigenerational cycles of labour endured by poor and working-class women, alongside the knowledge and social histories passed down between them. Yuko Edwards’ What You See in My Face explores a racially blended family, using archival and contemporary photographs to trace how love, land, stories and identity shift along lines of race and class over time.
* IC Visual Lab - Home & Exile by George Hallett, curated by Christine Eyene, explores the lives of South African artists, writers and musicians living in exile during the apartheid era. We are delighted to be joined on the day by Christine, who will give an introduction to the exhibition.

Our curators will share insights into the exhibitions as we move between venues, allowing you to experience the festival in depth without worrying about navigation.

Tours last approximately 2–3 hours, moving at the pace of the group, with opportunities to stop for coffee along the way.
