Bristol Photo Festival: Guided Walking Tour with Artist Talks

To mark the opening weekend the festival curators will lead a walking tour between different venues, stopping to explore the exhibitions and discuss the shows. Some of the exhibiting artists will also be present, sharing their ideas and answering questions. If you want to explore the festival in-depth, while letting someone else deal with the navigation and logistics, then these tours are for you.

On the opening Saturday we are running two tours, each visiting different venues. You are welcome to attend both tours or choose to come along to either the morning or afternoon session.

Morning Tour (10am-12.30pm

- 10 - Meet in the foyer of Bristol Museum & Art Gallery. At the museum we will visit and discuss two exhibitions: Persistence Studies by Sheida Soleimani and People of Clay by Akshay Mahajan. 
- 10.45 - Walk to Bristol Cathedral (10 minutes, 0.4 miles, downhill) to view Beyond the Bounds by Holly Lynton. At 11am Holly Lynton will be in conversation with the editors of Hapax Magazine (Chrstiane Monarchi and Gordon Macdonald), unpacking the ideas behind her exhibition.
- 11.40 - Walk to Arnolfini Gallery (12 minutes, 0.5 miles, downhill) to view Catching Flies with Honey by Joy Gregory.

We anticipate finishing the tour by 12.30pm, however we will try to follow the pace of the group, allowing additional time where possible.

Lunch Break - if you are attending both morning and afternoon tours, please bring a picnic or head to Arnolfini's cafe. You could also choose to visit St. Nick's Market (near to Centrespace Gallery) where there are lots of good things to eat.

Afternoon Tour (2-5pm)

- 2 - Meet at Centrespace Gallery to view Family Times by Annie Wang & Liu Hsing Yu
- 2.30 - Walk to Kit Form (18 minutes, 0.8 miles, mostly flat) to view Inherited, a two-person exhibition by Yuko Edwards and Kelly O'brien.
- 3.30 - Walk to IC Visual Lab (20 minutes, 0.8 miles, mostly flat) to view Home & Exile by George Hallett (curated by Christine Eyene).
- 4 - Walk to The Welcome Building (9 minutes, 0.4 miles, mostly flat) to view 5 exhibitions, including: Stray Sod by Maria Lax, Studio Kegham by Kegham Djeghalian Jr, Common Sense by Martin Parr, One of Many: An Alternative History of Photography (group exhibition), and Heat (group exhibition in partnership with the Magnum Foundation).

We anticipate finishing by 5pm. However, the tour will run at the pace of the group.

Key info:

- We will try to move at the pace of the group, while ensuring there is at least an hour lunch break for those attending both sessions.
- Please wear comfy shoes and pack a rain coat.
- In the morning we will walk a total of 0.9 miles (approx 20-25 minutes of walking, largely flat or downhill). In the afternoon we will walk a total of 2 miles (approx 45-50 minutes, mostly flat).
