The award-winning pianist, composer and poet ROBERT MITCHELL brings a new improvising trio to Bristol. A fascinating combination, the trio features two established major internationally renowned musicians, Robert Mitchell on piano and Mark Sanders on drums and one of the most exciting new emerging talents on the UK Jazz scene, the brilliant young saxophonist Xhosa Cole.

ROBERT MITCHELL established an international reputation in the early 2000's with his project 'Panacea' performing at the North Sea and Vienna, Manchester, Cheltenham and London Jazz Festivals and critical acclaim has continued with 10 innovative albums under his own name. He is also a respected sideman and collaborator, having worked with Norma Winstone, Steve Coleman, Greg Osby, Courtney Pine, Steve Williamson, Iain Ballamy, Mark Wingfield, Jeremy Stacey, David Lyttle and Omar Puente.

XHOSA COLE - Critically acclaimed saxophonist, flautist and composer, Xhosa Cole plays at Fringe Jazz for the first time. In 2018 he was the recipient of the BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year Award and has since: performed alongside artists including Monty Alexander, Courtney Pine and Robert Mitchell and as a soloist for the BBC National Orchestra of Wales; had the opportunity to perform at prestigious venues and events including the BBC Proms, Birmingham’s Symphony Hall and Ronnie Scotts; and In 2020 received the Parliamentary Jazz Award for Best Newcomer as well as having been nominated for the Jazz FM Breakthrough act. More recently it has been various collaborative, performance and compositional opportunities that have forged his development and helped to establish him as an emerging major name on the UK scene.

MARK SANDERS - Mark has played with many renowned musicians from around the world including Evan Parker, Peter Brotzmann, Derek Bailey, Robert Mitchell, Roswell Rudd, Keith Tippett, Paul Dunmall, Trevor Watts, Tim Berne, Liam Noble, Gail Brand, Martin Speake, Paul Rogers, Henry Grimes,Okkyung Lee, Barry Guy, Myra Melford, Otomo Yoshihide, Luc Ex, Ken Vandermark, Sidsel Endresen and Jean Francois Pauvrois, in duo and quartets with Wadada Leo Smith and trios with Charles Gayle with Sirone and William Parker.
