A Crash Course in Cloudspotting by Raquel Meseguer Zafe

A Crash Course in Cloudspotting can be experienced as a 35 minute audio installation or as a 55 minute performance.

An invitation to pause.
To rest.
To listen.

A Crash Course in Cloudspotting is an intimate audio journey exploring the depths of human connection and the subversive act of lying down.

Over the past five years Raquel Meseguer Zafé has collected over 250 stories from people living with invisible disabilities and chronic illnesses around the country. This immersive audio installation invites you into the heart of these personal experiences. In this delicate space, participants from across the UK and Europe, will illuminate your horizontal journey with a gentle choreography of lights, activated in the space by patterns of rest unfolding in real time.

Originally scheduled to be presented at Mayfest 2020, we’re delighted to be staging this beautiful work in its home city for the first time.

“Beguiling and thoughtful” - Exeunt Magazine

“A Crash Course in Cloudspotting is about finding, making, and acknowledging the connections between people….the…. the show lets us imagine ourselves as part of a web reaching out across the world.” Exeunt Magazine.

Across the life of the project Raquel has gathered over 250 stories from people who need to rest throughout their days to manage pain or fatigue and the personal stories of their attempts to rest in public spaces.

Some of these stories - gathered nationally and internationally - are part of curated journeys in the Cloudspotting Digital Archive. Our ambition is to eventually feature them them all.

Attendees are invited to submit their own stories here: https://www.cloudspotting.live/archive

On Thursday 19th May at 5pm Raquel will host the launch of the Crash Course in Cloudspotting Booklet - a new guide to resting in the city created with and published by No Bindings. Find out more here: https://www.mayk.org.uk/mayfest-programme#group/a-crash-course-in-cloudspotting-booklet-launch
