In this poetry workshop, Stephen Lightbown will explore letter-writing as a technique to write poems as a way to try and understand things that may at first seem confusing or difficult to put into words.

You will use a variety of techniques such as rhyme, repetition and writing to your future self to see how letters can create brilliant poems. Lightbown shows how to use your own experiences to make sense of the world and to help people better understand challenges that you may face.

Stephen Lightbown:

Stephen was born in Blackburn, Lancashire. In 1996, aged 16, he experienced a life changing accident whilst sledging in the snow and is now paralysed from below the waist. Stephen writes extensively but not exclusively about life as a wheelchair user. He has spoken at events across the UK, and at festivals such as Shambala, Womad, Verve Poetry Festival and Lyra Bristol Poetry Festival. In addition, Stephen has read internationally in San Antonio, Texas.

He is the author of two poetry collections for adults, Only Air and The Last Custodian, both published through Burning Eye Books. And one collection for children, And I Climbed, And I Climbed, published in September 2023 through Troika Books and was the October 2023 Book Trust Book of the Month.
