Pet Shop Boys: It Couldn't Happen Here 15 7.30pm at Cafe Kino
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"It’s only a laugh, no harm done. Jack Bond's surreal Pet Shop Boys flick follows the duo through a decaying Thatcherite England of rundown seaside towns, urban blight, and Catholic guilt. Panned at the time for its navel-gazing vanity, It Couldn’t Happen Here has become a fascinating time capsule, dripping with melancholic 80s pop sensibility."

A event held at Cafe Kino on Monday 22nd June. The event starts at 19:30.

Happy pride month! At Project the Dolls, we're celebrating with a special mini-season of screenings focussing on electronic music and its long association with the queer community. At Cafe Kino, we'll be screening queer synthpop icons', Pet Shop Boys, 1987 road movie, It Couldn't Happen Here. Released in lieu of a tour during their "imperial phase," the film mixes the 80s music video format with surrealism, British absurdist comedy in the carry-on tradition, and social commentary on life in the margins of Thatcher's Britain. Think Pierrot Le Fou's weird English cousin! Packed with campy high jinks and (obviously) some of the best electronic music of the 80s, It Couldn't Happen Here is bound to be a blast on the big screen! We're also screening Gaspar Noe's intense trip, Climax (2018), at the Gaffe comedy club this month, with opportunity to by a joint ticket for both screenings at a discounted price!
