Fizzog are the trio of Matt Davis, Luigi Marino & Phil Minton. Interweaving trumpet, voice, electronics and percussion in a considered exploration of stillness, textural dynamics, ruptured fragments and acoustic improvisation. 

They began playing together in 2023 with a debut performance at the inaugural Late Call improvisers night, here echoed in a similarly ‘late call’ lead-time show announcement. At that year’s close they joined in a quartet with extreme vocal improviser Audrey Chen at London’s Cafe OTO to celebrate Phil’s 80th birthday. A recording released earlier this year by Glasgow’s scatterArchive.

Tonight is drawn together to invite a rare opportunity to welcome Audrey Chen to Bristol and reconvene the quartet. Audrey is a second-generation Taiwanese American artist. A visceral performer whose sound work holds a physicality which confronts, disrupts & opens out the experience of migration, memory and the transmission of received histories. Close & dramatic listening.

Accordionist & tuba player Richard Hughes opens with a rare solo accordion set. A key organiser in the South West Improvisers Group (SWIG) which hosts & invites regular musical collaborations across generations from within Bristol & visiting. Richard is a generous and energising musical presence in the city. Committed to musical activism across improvised music & composition within informal, educational & community groups.
