Betty Blight album launch with Dan Weltman, Jon Hunt and Georgina King at Cafe Kino
See event details

A gig held at Cafe Kino on Thursday 5th February. The event starts at 19:15.

Betty Blight presents her first solo album, "Wench, Witch or Motherly", and is supported by stalwarts of the folk scene, Dan Weltman, Jon Hunt and Georgina King.

Celebrating the release of a very intimate and special debut solo album raised from the depths of illness as she moved between continents to return to her roots. "Wench, Witch or Motherly" refocuses the perspective and narrative around maligned women, echoing wintry themes of isolation and separation, while revering nature and our place in it. Betty's voice brings a warmth to cushion the awkwardness with adept acoustic guitar playing and accompaniments sprinkled in - Dan Weltman on fiddle, Tim Robertson on percussive noise, and soundscapes created with found sound. Betty lived in Argentina for 14 years where she played in postpunk women's trio Las Kellies, and formed cumbia band Betty Confetti y Su Conjunto Tropical.

Two staples of the Bristol folk scene, Jon Hunt (Spiro / The Wraiths) and Dan Weltman (Snails) have joined forces to explore lesser-mined seams within English folk tune tradition, utilising violin, viola and guitar.

Georgina King is a Bristol-based folk singer, active in sessions across the city. With a focus on narrative ballads and women in folk music, plus the odd union song, she is a keen explorer of folk traditions from across Europe.

Join us for an interesting, intimate and maybe intense evening of folk.
