SHAM / Arvy Ethers + Danny Riley at Cafe Kino
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"Another night of ecstatic absurdity from Bristol improv’s greatest gift! North Carolina’s Sham are a many-headed mutant of rambling freak folk, psychedelic devotionals and 8 track explorations, appearing at Kino in three-piece improv form alongside new abstract cornet/guitar collab Arvy Ethers and Danny Riley’s experimental fingerstyle instrumentals. FFO: @, Animal Collective, Elephant 6, Arthur Russell."

Sham is the multi layered experimental folk of Shane Justice
McCord in collaboration with Mikey Powers / Andy Loebs and
other dear friends ; a constantly reshaping organism ! They’ll
be celebrating their album ‘Machine Simple.’ Contributors to
the album include Avey Tare of Animal Collective, John Kiran
Fernandes of Elephant 6, Olivia Tremor Control and Austyn
Wohlers of Tomato Flower. This set will be a special improv
interpretation in trio form.

A new collaboration between Bristol scene journeyman
Harry ‘Iceman’ Furniss ( Bingo Fury etc ) on cornet and
wizard in textures, guitarist Steven Watson. Abstract but
also melodic; by turns calm and intense. A quick tag between
composition and improvisation, explored in a rare partnership
of instruments

Danny Riley - Danny is emerging on Bristol’s live scene
with a wild and explorative instrumental finger guitar style
that draws on the traditional music of the British Isles and
France along with improv, jazz, avant garde and psychedelic
music. Very much in the sonic guitar continuum of John Fahey,
Bill Orcutt, Tashi Dorji and Six Organs of Admittance. He is also
member of innovative folk improv trio Double Pelican.
