The Nano World at Channings Hotel, Clifton

A event on Monday 19th May. The event starts at 20:00.

The Pint of Science festival aims to deliver interesting, fun and relevant cutting-edge science talks in an accessible format to the public - in the pub! We want to provide a platform which allows people to discuss research with the people who carry it out. It is a non-profit organisation run by volunteers and was established by a community of postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers in 2012.

The festival takes place over three days simultaneously in multiple pubs.

TOUCHING AND FEELING THE NANOWORLD

Professor Mervyn Miles & Dr Robert Harniman

Nanotechnology and nanoscience have huge potential for transformation in many aspects of our lives. We are interacting with this nanoworld through touch. The atomic force microscope builds up images by feeling structures as small as atoms with an exceeding sharp probe. The holographic assembler allows us to manipulate and feel micro and nano structures through optically trapped probes acting as finger tips, opening up exploration in biology and medicine. Join Professor Mervyn Miles and Dr. Robert Harniman from the University of Bristol for a relaxed evening of talks on this fascinating research being carried out at the University of Bristol.
