"Anne Carson is a Canadian scholar of ancient Greek who writes poetry, philosophy and other genres I can’t identify.

She has translated all of Sappho, remade a Hercules myth as a 20th century gay love story, and written about Proust and his chauffeur. She writes about Eros and desire. I've been reading her for 20 years. I find her work funny, brutal, tragic, sometimes incomprehensible, and sometimes like an action movie. It expands my brain.

I'll bring 18 of her books to the event. I'll talk a bit about what there is, then I suggest we spend some quiet time browsing or reading. We can talk too. Feel free to dress up as your favourite Carson subject (Sappho, Simone Weil, Joan of Arc, the red monster with red wings) or bring a Carson-themed snack (volcano-cooked pizza, a phosphorescent glowing fish-head).

No prior knowledge of poetry or Anne Carson needed."
