Rooted in Bristol: Film Screening at Cibomatto in St Anne's House
General Admission: includes screening, food, & talk

A event on Wednesday 4th June. The event starts at 18:30.

Bristol Food Network CIC is proud to host a screening of Rooted in Bristol as part of Food Justice Fortnight 2025. Nibbles will be lovingly provided by Cibomatto, which is covered in the ticket price!

About the film: Rooted in Bristol is a documentary celebrating the Black and Afro-Caribbean community of growers in Bristol. The seasonal cycle of digging, planting, and nurturing has been a way of life for many, literally enabling communities to put down roots in Bristol. The film explores personal histories and experiences, raising questions like: who has access to green spaces for wellbeing and for growing, and how can we make that access more equitable?

The screening will be followed by a discussion with the filmmakers and a short workshop that will creatively work with Hip-Hop, to respond to the film and Food Justice fortnight's theme of Food and Power.

Annie Menter, artistic director of Afrika Eye and an independent curator/producer, filmmaker Tay Aziz, creative producer and narrator Manu Mangaunidze, and assistant producer Esther Afikiruweh, worked in collaboration to make Rooted in Bristol and document personal histories of growing. Annie and Tay will be joining for the discussion!

The Hip-Hop workshop will be presented by KMT – The Freedom Teacher. KMT is an award-winning environmental leader, educator, and Hip-Hop artist using culture to drive inclusive climate solutions. As co-founder of May Project Gardens, he’s built a transformative grassroots movement that blends sustainability, community empowerment, and creative expression.

Join us to explore what we need to harness our collective power and make Bristol a city of Food Justice.
