on Thursday 3rd April. The event starts at 18:00.
A powerful evening exploring art and activism, I Am Judah tells the true story of Ras Judah, a Bristol elder who was brutally tasered in the face by police after years of wrongful identification. This immersive screening blends film, live poetry, and photography with an evening of storytelling and discussion, bringing Judah’s experience to the screen under the direction of the talented Bashart Malik.
Hosted by Gwenton Sloley, a leading violence reduction specialist and co-founder of the London Gang Exit programme, the event features a screening of I Am Judah, powerful spoken word performances from Tanya Muneera and Kabbo Hue Ferdinand, and a photo exhibition by renowned documentary photographer Mark Simmons.
The night will culminate in a panel discussion on Art & Activism in the Creative Space, featuring:
• Ras Judah Adunbi – Community activist and former local government officer.
• Cleo Lake – Former Lord Mayor of Bristol, campaigner for reparations and racial justice.
• Dr Lawrence Hoo – Award-winning poet and educator challenging social injustice.
• Bashart Malik – Director of I Am Judah, exploring race and power in film.
An unmissable night of powerful storytelling, creative resistance, and urgent conversations on systemic injustice and the role of art in driving change.
