Papershell Micropress Journal launch at Clifton Community bookshop, 10 Clifton Rd, Clifton, Bristol BS8 1AF

A event on Friday 10th July. The event starts at 18:30.

Join us for the launch of Nyctophilia Variations, the debut issue of Papershell's literary journal.

The evening will feature readings from our contributors - both virtual and in-person. There will also be a conversation with our writers, artists, and members of the Papershell editorial team. Finally, we'll be announcing the theme of our next issue.

A few words about the journal

Nyctophilia Variations is split into two parts: Mythologia and Laographia – a study of myth and a study of folklore. Bringing together an extraordinary range of voices from across the world, the anthology understands myth as something that lingers after collapse – in echoes, bodies, dreams, and absences.

From the cliffs of Cape Sounio, to Zeus’ shop class, and from the wonders of medieval medicine, to monsters and statues that toy and torment, these stories are fragments that treat myth as something unstable and turpid, perpetually resurfacing through intimate and violent acts. Here, grief exceeds reason, familial curses shake communities, and the price of hubris is taught anew. The mythological is not escapism, but another means of confronting reality.

We look forward to celebrating our publication with you!
