A event held at Cloak on Tuesday 30th April. The event starts at 20:00.

The season is turning, and as it does, GAY24 turns from the lesbian machinations of March, into the lesbian joys of April.

Our feature for this month is a a 90s teen romcom, The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls In Love – and the plot film is exactly what it says on the tin. Imagine a John Hughes movie but oops-all-lesbians; instead of a boombox in the rain, we have teen dykes avidly reciting Walt Whitman to each other. Gone are the overbearing parents, replaced with earnest lesbian aunties, and in lieu of a heterosexual makeover signalling the entry to adulthood, our baby dyke protagonist fixes her crush’s car.

The film stars a young Laurel Holloman, who you queers will know Tina from The L Word, as Randy Dean, a teen lesbian with bad grades, GREAT overalls and an apparently boundless capacity for yearning.

Directed by Maria Maggenti and dedicated to her first girlfriend (“may our relationship finally rest in peace”, the dedication reads), this film is pure, silly, sapphic fun, and a balm for all of us whose first, stumbling queer relationships felt like entire universes.

Preceding our feature is a similarly celebratory portrait of lesbian love. In Rosebud (1991), a young woman moves in next door to a very happy lesbian couple. Observing their obvious happiness, hotness and easy intimacy introduces a whole world of possibility and fantasy into her life.

In short, these films celebrate lesbian love as something that is fun, funny, sexy, and above all, very achievable! Which may as well be our mission statement at GAY24 – The Queers Are Doing It, And So Can You.

This is GAY24’s final program of our fifth season - dates and details for our sixth season coming soon, with even more gay shit to show you. Can’t wait to see you there x
