A event on Wednesday 8th March. The event starts at 18:00.

March 8th is International Women’s Day

This year we, the Bristol Feminist Collective, march to be together and remember women who lost their lives to male violence, and to fight for the millions more women, trans and non-binary people who continue to struggle in a patriarchal world.

Please bring CANDLES / LIGHTS, PLACARDS / SIGNS, & YOUR FRIENDS / LOVERS
Please also wear masks

Join us after the demo at PRSC with Bristol Kurdish Solidarity Network, Jin & Bristol Industrial Workers of the World-FINT to connect, plan future campaigns and find solidarity!

DISABILITIES: Our march will take place along streets with accessible curbs, and stewards will be disability aware. Please reach out if you have questions, needs or comments, or just want us to know you'll be there. We'd love you to join, and want your march to be as great as possible.

At least 107 women were killed by men in 2022. But not all lives are treated equally, whilst the stories of white women are more likely to hit the headlines we hear little about black and brown women. Sex workers and those who struggle with mental health or substance use are more likely to be blamed. Trans women are not even counted in the femicide census. Then there are the many others who die by suicide due to misogyny, transphobia and other forms of patriarchal violence. This all must end.

Starting at a spot to be confirmed in Bristol City Centre, we will march together holding 107 lilies to commemorate each woman. We aim to raise awareness of the dangerous society women and others subjected to misogyny live in, and to wake people from the false idea that feminism has already achieved its goal. The patriarchy damages us all, and it’s long past time for change!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now is the time to be together and to fight for our lives. There has been an onslaught of horrific events these last few weeks… A trans girl, Brianna Ghey, was killed by two teenagers. Several hundred of the far-right held what must have been a terrifying protest outside a hotel in Knowsley where migrants have been housed. A Met police officer, David Carrick, admitted to being a serial sex offender and we’re told 800 others are under investigation. Influencer, Andrew Tate, who has a huge following for his advice on how to dominate and use women, is arrested due to rape and human trafficking claims.

This is all in the context of an ongoing cost of living crisis where women, especially black and brown women and disabled women, are affected the most. More women are pushed into sex work but the law continues to make the work more dangerous. The cost of living crisis has also played into the hands of domestic abuse perpetrators as their partners find it impossible to leave without having the funds to do so.

In the face of all this, Bristol women, non-binary and trans folks have been on the streets demanding change. March of the Mummies protested the rising cost of childcare, nurses, posties and many more have gone on strike, we’ve demanded abortion rights, trans people and allies have gathered to remember Brianna and also to protest the backwards thinking of our government around self ID. One thing is clear, we won’t let this pass by without raising our voices.
