AN ELECTRIFYING, TRAILBLAZING AND CHARISMATIC ITALIAN PIANO QUARTET MADE ATYPICAL BY THE PRESENCE OF A CELLO AND AVANT-ROCK DRUMS, ITS VIBRANT MUSICAL UNIVERSE SPLICES SOPHISTICATED JAZZY IMPROVISATION, CLASSICALLY INFLECTED REFLECTION AND HEADLONG ROCK VIVACITY; A POWERFUL MIX.

Raf Ferrari: piano
Vito Stano: cello
Guerino Rondolone: bass
Claudio Sbrolli: drums

Raf Ferrari has set a lot of joints jumping over the years; balancing heartfelt cinematic music with high-energy blitzes with no shortage of grooves, the hypnotically pounding piano building against a thumping backbeat, cushioned by rich classical-touch strings. The tunes are irresistibly catchy, and the group is as tight as a drumhead, infallibly on each other's wavelengths. Proof positive that jazz+classical+rock is more than the sum of its parts, and is very, very entertaining.

To celebrate the last show of Ferrari's short UK tour, Cotham Club invokes the spirit and unique charm of a low-lit, intimate lounge bar located in the heart of the Eternal City, the perfect atmosphere in which to hear such an inventive ensemble. Take up a chair gathered around the dance floor and stage, right up close to the band, bond with good company over an indulgent drink, and then bop to the groove, or boogie in your seat, or just sit enveloped in the music, soaking up the vibes.

A rare opportunity to hear the cream of Italian jazz-rock in Bristol, this vibrant, captivating and wildly original performance - sometimes laid-back, sometimes out-there - guarantees an unforgettable night.

Led by Lucanian pianist Raffaele Ferrari, this award-winning Italian band has toured extensively, performing in Germany, Slovenia, Scandinavia, Italy and the UK. Paired with the prodigious cello, bass and drums of Vito Stano, Guerino Rondolone and Claudio Sbrolli, the immense improv expertise from this quartet drives the original music, but Raf's composer's ear gives it shape, drama and contrast that hold the attention tight.

Winners of a JAZZIT: Italian Jazz Magazine Award, the Raf Ferrari Quartet is considered among the musicians 'most representative of contemporary Italian jazz' (Dictionary Of Jazz Italia, Feltrinelli Publishing).

★★★★☆
'A gifted post-EST trio… admirers of the turbo-charged melodies of Neil Cowley should feel instantly at home in Ferrari's genre-bending sound world.'
