BEJE/BRITISH EUROPEAN JAZZ ENSEMBLE

-

Intoxicating, feel-good, supremely funky world-jazz.

-

A JOYOUS, DRIVING, JAZZ/FUNK/SWING SOUND CRACKLING WITH WORLD-GROOVE INFLUENCES FROM EXHILARATING PAN-LATIN-JAZZ TO POWERFUL MIDDLE EASTERN MUSIC.

-

Alex Merritt: saxophone
David Mowat: trumpet/flugel horn
Knud Stuwe: oud/guitar
Tim Funnell: piano
Ashley John Long: double bass/electric bass
Paolo Adamo: drums

-

Somewhere between vivacious jazz, inventive small-band swing, taut funk, sophisticated Latin-jazz and the ecstatic polyrhythms of the Middle East, this wonderfully jubilant set brings a good-time feel to the dance floor.

With a superb trumpet/sax frontline, exquisite traditional Arabic oud work, and a blistering rhythm section of piano, bass and drums, the sparklingly tight ensemble interplay radiates a mix of joy and excitement. A striking world-jazz workout to bring the crowd to its feet.

'[An] exhilarating evening of playing... sensitively lyrical and full of zest.'

Cotham Club: a brilliant, eclectic monthly live global music club with a passion for community at its core.

Music, with all its subtlety and spirit, has immense power to unite people. It is the universal language of mankind. The sounds of Africa, America, Eurasia, and Oceania have always found a home in Bristol, and there are few better examples of the city's cultural cross-pollination than Cotham Club, a celebration in sound of what unites rather than divides. Each month we showcase some of the most diverse and brilliant musicians from Bristol and beyond, linking audiences to great music and to each other.

'Community-focused gigs welcoming an array of global musicians and gig-goers
of all ages, genders, neurotypes, and ethnicities.'
